Near Death Experiences

What happens when we die? Is there life after death? Where do we go when we die? These are all questions that humans have wondered since the beginning of time. And the answer is that no one really knows. However, nearly 1 in 10 people have had a near death experience. These people's experiences can give some information as to what happens when we physically die. From a warm sensation to a lost sense of time, most people who have a near death experience describe these similar traits and many more. This is a difficult topic to study objectively, but people's experiences can give insight into what happens after death.

I recently watched a brand new Netflix show called "Surviving Death". I highly recommend watching the first episode which is all about near death experiences (NDE). The show tells personal stories of NDEs and explains why research about the topic is very difficult to conduct. After watching this show, I know that I definitely want my research project to be about near death experiences.

  1. I am watching this first episode as I write you. Very good. As the episode shows, there is a large literature on the phenomenon, going back over a century. The program, by the way, is based on Leslie Kean's book of the same title. I recommend getting hold of her book.

  2. There are a lot of studies of "near death experience" in the Rutgers libraries database. Looks like a very promising topic. The challenge will be finding a focus on the topic around which to build an argument.
